About Kimberley
Kimberley is where South Africa's diamond rush happened, and the Big Hole — the enormous hand-dug excavation at the centre of town — is still the reason most visitors come.
It is the Northern Cape's largest city and a useful base for the province's wide, empty landscapes, including the drive north towards the Kalahari.
Getting in from the airport
Kimberley Airport (KIM) is about 7 km from the city centre, roughly ten minutes. Car hire is available and worth having — the Northern Cape's attractions are spread out.
