About George
George is the practical way into the Garden Route. Knysna is about an hour east, Wilderness twenty minutes away, and Oudtshoorn and the Karoo sit over the Outeniqua Pass to the north — so a week here covers forest, coast and semi-desert without long drives.
It is also South Africa's golf capital by concentration, with several of the country's best-known courses within half an hour of the airport.
Getting in from the airport
George Airport (GRJ) is about 10 km from town, roughly ten minutes. Hire a car — the Garden Route is a driving destination and public transport between the towns is limited.
